Find Icebergs Near You
Newfoundland & Labrador ranks among the finest for observing icebergs. Between April and August, these ancient glacial behemoths, some dating back 10,000 years, can be spotted from numerous vantage points along the northern and eastern shores, particularly during clear, sunny weather. They exhibit a diverse range of shapes and sizes, displaying hues ranging from pure snow-white to the profound depths of aquamarine. Despite their annual migration from the Arctic in spring and subsequent vanishing a few months later, our fascination with them endures, refreshed each year.
The Government of NL has develop an online tool for the public and tourist to track icebergs. The icebergs you see on IcebergFinder.com come from two sources: visual sightings from our on-the-ground ambassadors, and satellite detections from C-CORE using data from the European Space Agency (ESA), the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Icebergs are plotted during peak iceberg season, typically from late May to August. The photos you see on our iceberg map come from tourism operators and travelers like you.
